TIZIP® zipper

The TIZIP zippers used by ORTLIEB consist of a strong plastic coil zipper on a high strength fabric. Sealing zippers are harder to move than conventional zippers, and need to be maintained by applying a lubricant at regular intervals. Products with TIZIP zippers are suited for all fields of applications which require protection against humidity and dust on the one hand, and ask for fast access on the other hand.

Product features

The TIZIP® MasterSeal 6 and 10 consist of an abrasion-resistant, polyurethane-coated fabric to which the plastic teeth are attached. The sealing lip within the zipper separation guarantees water and pressure tightness.

The TIZIP® MasterSeal 10 with a pressure tightness of up to 500 mbar impresses with its robust and flexible design. The plastic teeth are attached to a base frame made of heavy-duty, polyurethane-coated fabric on the front and back. As with the TIZIP® MasterSeal 6, water and pressure tightness is ensured by the sealing lip being pressed together within the coupling elements.

Splash-proof, smooth-running and resistant to dirt. These are the characteristics that distinguish the TIZIP® WaterSeal plastic spiral zipper. Combined with high load capacity and abrasion resistance, this TIZIP® is the ideal product for travel bags, backpacks, and much more. When the TIZIP® WaterSeal is closed, the sealing lips above and below the spiral are pressed together, thus protecting against splash water.

Handling

We recommend that you follow these tips when handling TIZIP® zippers:

  • Operate the slider gently. Pulling at an angle can negatively affect the tightness of the zippers or impair them in other ways.
  • Avoid overstretching the ports and end pieces. Do not pull the two sides of the zipper apart forcefully.
  • Be careful not to fold or crush the zippers. This can impair their function.
  • Close each zipper so that the slider is correctly positioned in the port to ensure a tight seal.

Cleaning

We recommend cleaning all TIZIP® zippers with soapy water and a soft brush. Do not use solvents or aggressive cleaning agents, as these can impair the function of the zipper. Dirt particles, especially between the teeth, can affect the sealing lip and thus impair the tightness.

Masterseal

Closed TIZIP® MasterSeal zippers must be lubricated at the port from time to time, e.g. after prolonged storage. Proper lubrication before use is crucial for proper functioning.

  • Please clean the zipper port beforehand.
  • Then carefully apply the lubricating grease to the area around the port on the front and back, as well as on the inside at the transition to the zipper chain.
  • Do not use lubricating grease along the zipper chain.
  • Use the original TIZIP® lubricating grease or a comparable product.
  • Remove any excess lubricating grease, as this may cause stains.

Waterseal

It is possible to improve the smoothness of the TIZIP® WaterSeal by occasionally applying grease along the dome links.

  • Please clean the zipper beforehand.
  • Use the original TIZIP® lubricating grease or a comparable product.
  • Remove any excess lubricating grease after application, as this may cause stains.
